Applicable to all AYSO age groups:
- All players present at the start of any game must play at least 2 quarters or 1/2 of the game
- Any player arriving at a game during the first quarter must play two of the three following quarters
- Any player arriving during the second or third quarters must play at least one of the remaining quarters
- In the event that a player is injured, the coach may (but is not required to) provide a substitute for the injured player. If the injured player is substituted, he/she may not return to the game until the beginning of the next quarter. If they are not substituted, they may return to the game during the quarter in which they were injured with the referee's permission.
- If an injured player is substituted for, only the injured player is credited for the quarter being played, no matter how many minutes had expired at the time of the injury
- Substitutions shall be made only at quarters, halftime, and at the beginning of each overtime (when applicable), with the exception of an injured player as listed above
Note: Quarter stoppages for substitutions should be made during a normal stoppage of play (i.e. throw-ins, goal kicks, corner kicks, kick-offs as the result of a goal being scored) and normal play should resume from that point. A quarter stoppage for substitutions does not require that the game be restarted with a kick off.
